Lib Dems campaign for better bus provision Results of Brickhill Bus Survey

We are extremely grateful to the hundreds of residents across Brickhill who have taken part in my bus survey over the past few months.

This is what people in Brickhill think about the bus services, what they like and also how they can be improved.

It is clear that people in Brickhill value the bus service and many residents are dependent upon the bus to provide for their transport needs. Most of the time the existing bus service receives a good report, however there are problems. We received reports of buses failing to stop, or moving off before passengers were properly seated. Some residents reported the inconvenience of buses not arriving every 10 minutes as scheduled, with occasional waits of up to half an hour.

The following issues were of particular concern -

Routes:  There is considerable dissatisfaction with routes. As an example, Brickhill has a poor provision of medical facilities and when travelling to a doctor or the hospital, most people have to use two buses. People want bus routes to cover areas such as Putnoe for the library, and Goldington for Tesco’s. Many people would like the service to go through to Kempston.

Frequency:  Most people find that the service is frequent enough. However there are problems with frequency at peak times and overcrowding after school.

Cost:  Most users of the bus in Brickhill do not pay, those who do pay find the costs of using the bus is just too expensive.

The Dart Service and Door To Door: There were many dissatisfied users of the Dart bus service, residents complained of buses failing to arrive. Users of Door to Door were extremely satisfied, some rating the service as excellent. Sadly people who choose to use the Door to Door service have to pay full fares on other buses.

We will now use these findings to campaign for a bus service which reflects the needs of Brickhill residents, giving further consideration to the introduction of a circular service. We will continue to campaign for well maintained bus shelters with clearly displayed time tables and lower bus fares. If you wish to make any further comments then please do not hesitate to contact us.
