Policing matters
 |
Local Liberal Democrats have spoken with hundreds of Brickhill residents. One of
the main comments raised by residents is a wish for proper policing in
Brickhill, with action taken to prevent and solve crime, reduce vandalism and
anti-social behaviour.
Any person wishing to make a report to
the police whether it be as a victim of crime or to pass on suspicions
should in the first instance contact the Call Handling Unit on 01234
841212
In the event of threat to life, or property, (as in a crime is in
progress) - then calls should be made by dialling 999. The Call Handling
Unit is staffed 24hrs a day 7 days a week and the operators are trained
in grading all calls and directing suitable responses. They are also
able to forward messages to Police Staff with particular
responsibilities i.e. Neighbourhood Police Officers etc.

Latest Information
There has been a growing crime trend across the country whereby car
number plates are being stolen to be used in crime. This means that the
victim may also suffer from receiving summonses for unpaid parking and
speeding tickets, or even questioned regarding more serious crimes. In
an effort to combat this problem, Bedfordshire Police and South
Bedfordshire Community Safety Partnership have teamed up to offer to
secure your number plates free of charge. To view times and dates for
operation CAPS events in North and Mid Bedfordshire, view the North and
Mid Bedfordshire calendar at www.safer-beds.org, by going to the events
section of the site, or contact the Vehicle Crime Reduction officer on
(01234) 275273.
Other community and crime reduction events can also be found on the
calendar. The calendar will be updated regularly, with CAPS and other
events.
If you know of any events or have organised an event that you feel could
be promoted on the calendar, please let use know.

Charles Royden - Campaigning for Zero Tolerance and action on Crime
Liberal democrats are
the party which supports more police on our streets - and we have delivered in
Brickhill
Local Liberal Democrats
campaigned for the setting up of the Police Post at St Mark’s and the employment
of a Bedford Borough Council Street Ranger
Liberal Democrats also proposed the setting up of a No Cold Calling Zone for the
whole of Brickhill. These are practical steps of benefit to the whole community.
Since Liberal
Democrats have campaigned to bring a police cop shop to Brickhill, there
are now police and police support officers based in Brickhill. The increased
police presence has been criticised by the local Conservatives as too expensive.
However other parts of Bedford have had money poured into policing and Liberal Democrats
continue to campaign for more police officers on Brickhill streets and we are proud
of it.
Our close liaison with the police has resulted in many
problems being resolved effectively such as the campaign to stop mini scooters
being driven on pavements. We will continue to highlight areas of concern like
these.
Charles Royden has been criticised by Tories for his no nonsense approach
to crime, specifically for calling for zero tolerance. He said, ‘there should be
no acceptable level of crime, Brickhill deserves more police on our streets.’
As a result of campaigning by Liberal Democrats a local police surgery takes
place at St Mark’s Church Community Centre every Tuesday and Thursday, it is the
busiest surgery in Bedford.
Surgery Times:
St Marks Church Community Centre Tuesdays 2 pm to 5 pm
Thursdays 4.30 pm to 7.30 pm
NBHA flat 6, Leven Walk Every 4th Wednesday (see dates and times on the NBHA
Notice Board)
Police Contact Details:
If you have information about any offences please contact the police on the
following numbers:
Emergency or crime in progress: 999
Any other non-emergency crime reports: 01234 841212
St Mark’s Church Community Centre Police post: 01234 349179 or 07706 944307
Charles Royden says
“I was a policeman. I understand what local residents
want. Liberal Democrats on the Parish Council have taken positive steps that
will help reduce crime in Brickhill. It is a shame that the Conservatives have
opposed these sensible measures”.
