Policing
New contact number for Police
Bedfordshire Police have launched a new number providing people with a new way to get in touch about non-emergency issues. 101 is now the main number to call Bedfordshire Police when it is less urgent than 999. As well as making the police more accessible to communities, it is intended that 101 will reduce the number of inappropriate 999 calls. There will be a single flat charge of 15p per call, regardless of the duration, time of day, mobile or landline. You should call 101 to report crime and other concerns that do not require an emergency response. For example:
- Stolen cars
- If you suspect drug dealing/taking
- To give us information about crime in your area
- To speak to your Local Policing Team
In an emergency, always call 999 when you need an immediate response, For example:
- Because a crime is in progress
- Someone suspected of a crime is nearby
- When there is danger to life
- When violence is being used or threatened
101 will not:
- Change the way in which we respond to non emergency calls
- Connect people to a large national call centre
- Result in calls receiving a lower priority than if 999 had been called for a non emergency issue
Zero Tolerance on crime
We do not believe that there is an accpetable level of crime in our community and we work with Police and the Community safety Forum to combat crime and anti-social behaviour. We also believe that it is important to have police out on the streets and we have delivered in Brickhill.
Local Liberal Democrats campaigned for the setting up of the Police Post at St Mark’s. Since Liberal Democrats have campaigned to bring a police cop shop to Brickhill, there are now police and police support officers based in Brickhil. Liberal Democrats also proposed the setting up of a No Cold Calling Zone for the whole of Brickhill. These are practical steps of benefit to the whole community.
Liberal Democrats continue to campaign for more police officers on Brickhill streets. Our close liaison with the police has resulted in many problems being resolved effectively such as the campaign to stop mini scooters being driven on pavements. We will continue to highlight areas of concern like these.

News Update
We do not believe that Brickhill is a suitable location for travellers to camp. Working with the Borough Council and the Police and using the Crime and Disorder Act we have ensured that groups which have come to Brickhill have been moved on within 24 hours. This year we have had no gypsy visits.

Many Burglaries can be prevented. Keep doors and windows locked at all times. Remove all keys from the locks and keep them in a safe place and out of view. Avoid leaving property like Handbags, Keys, or laptops in hallways, or where they can be seen from outside the house. Keep garden furniture, ladders, and Wheelie bins in a secure garage or shed, or locked up away from the house, where they might be used to climb onto a roof or access a first floor window. Be a good Neighbour. Be aware of sounds like breaking glass. Report any suspicious activity, or vehicles, in the area. If you have any information about crime,
